Tyrrell 023

In 1995, even though Fondmetal was no longer directly represented as a team on the grid, the technical and industrial legacy of Gabriele Rumi continued to be felt. The Tyrrell 023 (also known as the Yamaha 023) is a clear example of the new role Fondmetal assumed: no longer a manufacturer, but a partner and technical supplier—particularly in the areas of aerodynamics and suspension—through its development center.

The Tyrrell Yamaha 023, designed by Harvey Postlethwaite and Mike Gascoyne, with Jean-Claude Migeot overseeing the aerodynamics, was powered by the Yamaha OX10C V10 , an evolution of the V10 used the previous season. One of the boldest innovations is the front suspension system called Hydrolink, which had been tested since early 1995. Fondmetal Technologies served as a technical partner in this project, contributing to the system’s development.

The work carried out at the Fondmetal wind tunnel, the contribution to the development of the Hydrolink suspension system, and the aerodynamic collaborations—these are all factors that reaffirm the strategic importance of the Bergamo-based company in the F1 landscape of the 1990s.
