Technical Data Sheet

Full Name
Minardi M02
Designer
Gustav Brunner
Engine
Fondmetal V10

Fondmetal marks the return of its name to the Formula 1 grid through the Minardi M02, which competes under the name Telefonica Minardi Fondmetal. Although it is no longer an independent team, Gabriele Rumi’s company provides visibility and technical support to the team, particularly in terms of branding and technical development as a full-fledged manufacturer, with the engine known asthe “Fondmetal V10.”

The engine is a Ford-Cosworth, capable of producing approximately 770 CV at 15,800 rpm, with a 72° cylinder angle; although outdated compared to the engines of the top teams, it was renamed “Fondmetal” following an agreement that also included the acquisition of part of the technical staff and development rights by Minardi/Fondmetal. The wheel package is compatible with Bridgestone tires, mounted on magnesium rims, while the 6-speed semi-automatic transmission—featuring a titanium gearbox manufactured by CRP in Modena—helps reduce weight and increase torsional stiffness.

From an aerodynamics, the M02 introduces numerous innovations: a lower, more pointed front end, more compact sides, high-mounted exhausts, and a car underbody equipped with new appendages to optimize airflow. The cockpit also features structural innovations, including a double-U-shaped roll bar to facilitate driver access, as well as the early adoption of “reclined” brake calipers. Fondmetal supports the team primarily in aerodynamic analysis, providing its technical expertise and that of its development center.
